Learning And Teaching At Skye
At Skye Children’s Co-Operative, our approach to learning and teaching is comprehensive and dynamic. Our team of highly educated, passionate, and skilled teachers, educators, and staff is committed to the holistic development and well-being of each child.
To achieve this goal, we utilise both innovative and traditional play-based techniques that respond to the unique needs of each child and the group as a whole, allowing for spontaneous teaching opportunities alongside planned learning experiences orchestrated and executed by our leadership team.
Our integrated teaching and learning approaches combine guided play and learning, adult-led learning, and child-directed play and learning. This approach involves intentional engagement by adults in the children's play, promoting relational pedagogy and building trusting, respectful relationships between children, families, other educators and professionals, as well as members of the community.
Our curriculum is based on a place-based pedagogy, which recognises that educators' knowledge of the children and context will influence how educators plan and practice. Our curriculum places children's learning at its core, comprising interdependent elements from the Early Years Learning Framework: Vision, Principles, Practices, and Learning Outcomes. All of these elements are fundamental to early childhood pedagogy and effective curriculum decision-making.
At Skye Children’s Co-Operative, we believe that the curriculum encompasses all the interactions, experiences, routines, and events, both planned and unplanned, that occur in an environment designed to foster children's learning, development, and wellbeing. We understand that what is included or excluded from the curriculum can significantly impact how children learn, develop, and understand the world around them.
Skye Children’s Co-Operative offers a comprehensive and dynamic learning and teaching approach that recognizes the unique needs of each child and promotes their holistic development and well-being. We strive to build trusting, respectful relationships with children, families, educators, and professionals, creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters children's learning, development, and understanding of the world.
